I missed thee, (BEDA #1).

Christ have I missed you. I didn't want to write before BEDA because then I feared not having anything to write once I was committed to doing so, if you know what I mean. Not much has happened these past few weeks that could really captivate the interest of anyone who reads this blog. Speaking of people who read this blog, ELISABETH, where are you?! I miss your posts about things I don't really understand but am interested in anyway.

So, what can I talk about? I guess Comic Con would be a good place to start. Not the MASSIVE, AMERICAN AND SUPER AMAZING one in San Diego, but the much more humble, and cosy one in London's Earls Court. There, I guess the biggest person was Mike Tyson, or Bill Shatner (Captain Kirk). Ooh, excitingly enough I met Matthew Lewis, Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movie series. I actually did as well. What happened was I lined up, extremely nervous and happy about this, shaking. The guy in front of me was intimidatingly blasé and asked a genuine question about the film and Neville's role in it. When it came to my turn, I selected a picture, he asked my name, I said 'Melanie,', he asked, 'Is that M-e-l-a-n-i-e?', I replied, 'You're one of the only people who can, smell, spell that,', he laughed. I then extended a trembling hand which he accepted, said it was a pleasure to meet me and I tripped and nearly fell as I moved out of the way for the next person.

I dressed up, as usual. PICTURE:

The girl and boy next to us were two of the people who participated with us in the Anime Olympics. I took part in the third round of the Speeding Eating, which was crackers. Don't underestimate how much of your saliva three crackers can absorb, or how difficult it is to chew once you have no moisture in your mouth. I finished, third, I think? Can't remember. I was going to do Anime Pictionary, but I'm not that down with mainstream anime, so I doubt I would've have been able to recognise that many. Also, I couldn't have been able to draw a character accurately enough for other people to distinguish.

Yes, this time my hair was down for the latter half because I got bored of ponytail and my hair was being awkward, so. DON'T JUDGE ME. I would say I'm looking forward to Expo, but I have no money, so...

Comic Con was cook, I guess. It was slightly more sophisticated and more Star Trekky, as opposed to Expo which is really aimed at otakus. We met some nice, cough, attractive, cough, people. We later found the beautiful guy dressed up as Dead Pool, but he has a girlfriend. Either way, it was nice to flirt shamelessly with an obviously older guy whilst wearing a skirt that would flutter with the wind, revealing me every so often. The latter part was not so fun, and annoying when all I was trying to do was eat my sandwich.

Jacob came too, but he didn't dress up, comme d'accord, and was kind of moody for a significant amount of the day, for reasons me and Kate could not quite place. Perhaps he missed Shannon? Who knows. I had fun, okay.

Oh, oh, oh! And I bought some yaoi manga. I don't know if I've already explained, but yaoi is guy on guy, but in manga form one of the guys looks like a girl, so it kind of defeats its purpose. Seriously, if they don't look like a girl, then they act like a girl by doing something weird like crying during sex or something. The stall we bought it from had the nicest two guys, one of which was obviously attractive, while the other had shaggy curly hair, so I was attracted to him by nature. We debated whether they were gay, because they were super knowledgeable about the world of yaoi, and I am proud to say I understood. Like the high school situation of 'He's not gay, but he can be changed!', or the tragic relationship between the misfit and/or shy student and the hot, young, understanding teacher. The student would cry during sex.

While in front of the stall, I pointed to a manga and said, "See, this is why I don't like Catholics! They want to stop this!" The guys laughed nervously, not entirely sure I was talking to them, and Kate replied, "You go to a Catholic school!", and to which one of the guys said, "Pahaha! That's contraband in a Catholic school, reading yaoi,". So we conversed with them for a while, and then they showed me this one book with the most gorgeous artwork, so I ended up buying it. It was slightly cheaper than the rest too. They said they're going to be at Expo, so I look forward to seeing them there... and possibly buying some more manga with pretty drawings and pretty boys kissing each other. We got free stickers from them, and Kate later stuck one in one of the Bibles at school.

I also bought a couple of badges which I put on my school bag.

I'm kind of boredy bored, now.

Always yours,
Mel.

World Cup and Saving Money

I probably mentioned it before, but I liek the World Cup I do. My friends think I’m lame, because we’re nor the type of people to watch football, but I’m proud of how Brazil have something that they are best at, and something that they are better at than the rest of the world.

So that meant that today I was round Sophie’s house and we watched the football match of England vs. Germany. It was a little bit more super intense because of the whole rivalry that sparked between the years 1939-1945.

For some reason, I can’t really bring myself to fully support England because I don’t really like the players. Nothing against the country at all, just I think the players are all stuck up and try too hard to be the heroes of the game by not ever passing to the teammates. Plus, we’re just not very good at football, so it’s hard to root for a team that you don’t really think can win. If that makes sense.

But, I got into the spirit, painted an England flag on my face, but then backed it up with a tiny Brazilian one because they are who I want to win this year. I cheered at the right times, and too found it unfair that that goal did not count – but still think that regardless, Germany would’ve won.

Yeah, so we lost. 4 – 1 (or technically 2) to Germany. It was fun to draw on my face and then do my makeup with paint because it’s slightly easier to put on when it’s with a paintbrush. I should do it more often, for it might save me time in the morning and I might actually not have to run for the bus for once.

Speaking of saving though, I’ve recently gone on a bit of a buying-cheap-books spree. I would say online, but yesterday, Saturday, I went to a car boot sale in which I bought three books, and they were all fifty pence. Their names were Nightlight, a Twilight parody, The Princess and the Captain and He’s Just Not That Into You. The latter book was actually 20p; BARGAIN!

I love saving money, or finding bargains; not only in books, but in general. For example, I bought this cute tartan dress for three pounds at the sale, and a pair of shorts for a pound. I guess I think it’s more like finding buried treasure, and I’m a sucker for pirates. Always have been, yo.

I also like the idea that because they’re clothes that are relatively old, then it’s more likely that I won’t be wearing the same as anyone else, and I like being individual and unique but still the same because I’m a teenager. If you’ve ever been an insecure teenager who likes nerdy things, you know what I am going through and what I mean.

* * *

So, that was written a couple of days ago and I’m writing this bit on the 30th of June. I am more tired than usual today for reasons I do not now and I am annoyed I cannot meet John Green because the tickets got sold out.

So annoyed; I didn’t know he was so popular in England, but still it’s two months away and I didn’t expect it to be sold out so soon even if he was. Gash darn it, I feel bad. Perhaps I should have called sooner? I’m telling myself that’s not the case so that I don’t feel super, duper guilty.

What’s changed since my last bog post?

- I did my History exam. I think I did aright, but could’ve been more prepared for the question about what women brought to the West;

- Did two Science modular exams. Not sure how I did in them, but I’m hoping for an A at least. I know that sounds weird, but I want an A overall for Science, bro.

- Had to do a speech in front of my whole year (this is around 343 people my age who don’t give a shit about what I was saying). Granted, my friend’s did it with me, but it was still gut-wrenchingly awful. I am shy and boring; why should I be given the right to speak in front of a large audience?

- I’m pretty much at the end of the year. Only two more IAAs and then that’s everything important done.

- I’ve read Paper Towns by John Green. ‘Twas good, to say the least. I like Green’s writing; is funny. Was a little bit hyped up, but I liked how he phrased the ending so ambiguously.

- I’ve also got back on my YA fiction by reading Maureen Johnson and Megan McSomethingorrather (Jessica Darling novels, okay?). I miss cute boys and kissing in literature more than I should.

CURRENT OBSESSION

Jake and Amir from CollegeHumor. I love them more than I love most things. I have never wanted two people to get together more, especially those from the same sex. I love Pat too, but I want Jake and Amir to hook up and realise the good it would do the fangirls if they kiss. Good, but... thinking about it now... most of us would probably have an aneurysm of some sort from the beauty.

Going now,

Always yours,

Mel.

My brain...

...is screaming for me to write 'a bloody post about EXPO already'. So here I stand, or sit.

Well, I've already made a vlog about this, but since it shall be a few years before I post it, I
'll blog just in case I never, ever post it.

Okay, bullet point time!

- Me and Kate beat the record of how many people we interacted with -- last year, it was 221, and I can't remember exactly what it is, but we beat it, 'kay?
- I met David Deluise, the dad from Wizards of Waverley Place. We were originally just taking pictures of him, and after he looked our way and asked if we wanted pictures *with* him. I'll post the picture here soon; it's a bit shaky, but you can tell it's him and me.
- I saw some Doctor Who cosplayers dancing The Time Warp, and some Amy Ponds too.
- I hugged a Chester A. Bum cosplayer, which was pretty cool.
- Got lots of pictures taken of me. And I mean a lot. I wish I had counted, but I honest to God lost count, so, yeah.
- Bought three posters: Haruhi, Shugo Chara and Full Moon with that other manga on the other side.

The next day I went to the Japanese Festival with Kate again, and I cosplayed too. It was pretty cool, and the Japanese people there seemed to be impressed and in awe of our cosplays. It was weird -- me and Kate joked about it later, talking amongst ourselves like, "Yeah, wow, cosplay; don't have this in our country or anything!"

But for real, I think they were just shocked at the fact that we (or our mothers) made it, since no-one, according to Jacob, does so, because you can buy them on street corners.

I made origami! Y'know the origami bird things? Yeah, I can make them from memory.

Wow, this has been short. Oh well, I'm going back to writing my one-shot story now. It sucks, but I want to write it.

Love,
Melanie.

hello, HELLOOOOOOOO!

"...I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello!" I'm going to stop now otherwise I'm going to just have this entire blog post singing that song -- which, I am ashamed to say, have only really listened, properly, to the Glee version. Do not shoot me please, I have a dinner tomorrow and I want to wear my pretty white dress.

I say 'properly' because I played Beatles's Rockband in the library and you could faintly hear them rocking away, bless their souls.

I'm on a, nope sorry -- I'm in a funny mood today. I should probably not blog when in a funny mood but I really can't be arsed to go sit down and watch -- I don't know the name of the company but insert their name here -- butcher anything that ever made me like DBZ ever, ever. Except for maybe Goku, I don't mind him for some reason.

I'm so glad that it's DBZ and not DBGT because they it would have Pan and their would just rip her apart or have her played by the girl that did Lilo's voice or something and that's not right, man. It just ain't riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight ~~~

I feel like that's a song so that's why I wrote it that way, okay?

My brother is off to go to Scouts, which means I get dinner soon, hopefully. It's grilled chicken breast, from what my nostrils can gather and I like that. I like it with ketchup, did you know that? I've had it like that since I was about seven and haven't really grown out of it.

Ah yes, that was one of my blog ideas, wasn't it: Things Blog Reader(s) Do Not Know About Me. Yes, I know most people who read my blog already know me rather well and therefore this is pointless, but I shall do this anyway. Leave me alone.

1) I write in my head. And by this I mean that I write scenes. I'm no John Green or Douglas Adams, and so that means I rarely actually form sentences in my head, and instead think up a scene and play it in my head for a little bit to amuse myself. Now, I have told people this, but I get the impression that they think I say it to show off. I don't, honest. It's just something I do to pass the time.

Also, speaking of impressions, sometimes I feel like people think I'm bored of them and that's why I start to staring into pace. It's not; I do it out of habit and because I constantly get new ideas and things. Once again, not trying to show off, just trying to to clarify myself.

2) My favourite food is eggs. Yes, eggs. Eggs goes well with everything, and can be done in so many ways: scrambled, fried, poached, boiled, soft boiled, omelette, etc. And I love each way it can be done. Except maybe fried, but I'd still eat it; I just prefer it poached, because it's healthier.

3) My favourite actresses are Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Portman and Amy Adams is kind of sweet as well. I'm just saying; and I based my character Erin from Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days of Summer, which Kate openly stated the other day that she hated because it was plot-less. I gaped in awe because I love that film; I liked how it was kind of controversial to the rest of rom-coms, and kind of didn't focus on the 'rom', if you know what I mean.

4) I am a sucker for showtunes. It is the reason I watch Glee. Sure, I like Rachel because she's oddly psychotic and cool that way, and Finn so cute because he's ditzy, but I watch it for the songs and hope they do them well. They usually do, but I like it when they do showtunes as opposed to normal songs, because they're more fun.

5) I get reel lonely sometimes. And I'm using humour here to make it less awkward, but I do get lonely. Liek the proper angsty, 'Iwishihadaboyffff' lonely that most single girls my age tend to feel.

I don't really get the whole, 'THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' thing and don't blame that for my lack of boyfriend-ness, because I know it's all really 'to each their own' in relationships. I guess it's just impatience for when I do find the right person. And I know it's a when, not an if, because I've always known there's someone out there for everyone and things. Excuse me while I cringe at what I just said.

6) I've been watching anime since I was about five years old. Okay, this one kind of sucks, because just about anyone in the universe knows it, but it's true and I think it needs to be emphasised.

And that's all for now because I'm so painfully boring and blog so much that most things you know about me... you have read here... and that's just all there is folks.

I'm going to die now,

All my love,
Emlanie. (I meant to do that, 'kay? ~~ I got it wrong first time, but decided to shake things up a bit, yaknow).

Oh, why HELLO!

Oh, blooooooooooooooog! *squeeezes*

Oh how I have missed you and your annoying default font, and just you. Oh, you.

I put off blogging because I was lazy. Not because I was busy, although I was, because I found time to read manga and still watch Doctor Who and stuff. As well as make Lauren's presents, so, no, it was just laziness. I'm so sorry.

But, that's in the past, is it not? And today I am here to talk about good things. Things that make my life suck that little bit less for once. I know, I'm a changed woman /notreally.

So, today was 50%-of-our-GCSE-R.E-exam day. It was something I didn't revise a lot for and therefore was fairly nervous about it, but knew that me failing was not a possibility, so I was more in the 'just wanting to get it over with' mood more than anything.

And luckily I was in... er, luck. The test was 'piss easy', the boy seated next to me remarked afterwards. I agree with him, because I knew most of it. Only the last question was a bit... meh.

It was something along the lines of: 'If everyone was a Christian, there would be no racism in the world' Do you agree with this statement? In your answer refer to Christianity, give reasons for your point of view and why might some people disagree with you.

I mean, the first part was fairly explanatory; I know how they want me to answer the question, I pretended to be a devout Catholic and emphasised how we were not racist because of St Peter's vision, and other things. But then I wasn't so sure as to what put for the second part.

I distinctly remember just throwing in some key words in it and then slamming my paper shut to write some more Treasure Planet fanfiction in my head.

Secondly, remember that totally notsome grade I got for my English? Well our oh-so-lovely trainee teacher of sorts, Ms Kleanthous, allowed us to do a roleplay which included a court trial including the characters from Macbeth.

It was a trial deciding whether or not Lady Macbeth was just a poor, confused woman, left deranged from the loss of her baby, or a plotting, cold blooded mastermind who was power hungry and ruthless.

I was Lady M, and, logically, had to play up my whole distraught at losing my child and things while my lawyer, played by Simi, defended me further against Leah, who was the prosecuting lawyer.

But, although we lost the 'trial', and I don't blame them, I think Lady M's a bit of a manipulative bitch who was a little touch of crazy, I got an A-, which is just ahhh, orgasmic?! No, srsly, to go from D+ to A- is very cool with me and I... I'm just really happy at the moment.

And Saturday is Sophie's birthday celebration and I get to wear my pretty white dress AGAIN, so I'm satisfied, as opposed to last year, where I wanted to die because I had no pretty dresses of my own.

Let's see...

I saw The Last Song and I cried, and as I have aforementioned, I enjoy crying over fiction, because it makes me feel replenished and refreshed, much like the hair in L'Oreal adverts.

Also, Doctor Who is fantastic and I feel myself fall in love with Matt Smith a little bit more each week. As I read in a book once, "it's like I'm drowning, but the water is so warm and smooth against my skin that I don't mind".

Furthermore, we had this conversation at break, and I thought it was brilliant how all of us feel the same about him. At first, it was like, "Ah, you're cute, I like you!", but now it's like, "OMG!!!!! TAKE ME NOWWWWW!!!!" with the epic, exasperated voice.

Glee isn't moving forward, and that's the only thing that kind of sucks at the moment. That and my History exam, which I am so not looking forward too, because it is one of my worst subjects, oh yes it is. That, then Science and then English. Because only the Creative Writing aspect of English am I good at.

But Finn is cute in a non-Matt Smith way; in a way that I want him and Rachel to get together already!

I'm seriously going to stop blogging now though.

Love you forever,
Melanie.

Sunday, 2 May 2010

I, again, do not want to blog.

And I do not understand why I am trying to, because it is not April, so I am not bound to any internet meme of any sort to blog today, but I feel as if I should.

Yesterday, I bought material for my Sailor Moon costume, and that is why it was a productive day. The rest of the day, though not productive, was very pleasant. My brother, my cousin and I watched Q.I., managed to eat a whole Pringle's cylinder by ourselves and watch Bill Hicks's stand up shows.

Then, the three of us, my auntie and my mum ate lunch on her balcony of sorts, basking in the glory of the sunny day we had been blessed with. The lunch was also very good: mashed potatoes with carrots, rice, and a stew like thing with lamb and mushrooms. Ah, mushrooms.

Also, Doctor Who was on when we got home, meaning I got to drool of Matt Smith very much. I have not felt an attraction to a man this bizarre since V from V for Vendetta. He's just so... and with Amy... ah.

I get to wallow in all the things the episode implies for their relationship.

a) he kissed her on the forehead.
b) he was annoyed when he realised the Angels were doing something to Amy.
c) he was very annoyed when they realised they were going to frighten her and kill her and threw the speaker thing on the floor.
d) he kissed her back for a split second I SWEAR.

But even if it was a not very impressive kiss, it was a start, and The Doctor's reaction was very, very cute. The whole exasperated, confused and flustered look looks lovely on him, do you not agree?

What else...

Me and my mum went for a walk in the morning, discussing contraception, my generation and other things. My mum also confided in me a story I feel that I need to share because it added to my level of respect for my mother.

It's not particularly long, but it's very sad.

Basically, there is this boy, whom my mother lost her virginity to and who was my mother's first serious boyfriend, who was going to a football match with his friends one day. When they left the stadium and got in the car, a boy around there age marches up their window and point a gun inside the car.

The boy demands for my mother's boyfriend's watch, gesturing with the gun. There is a panicked huffle and bustle in the car and all the guys along with my mother's boyfriend try to calm the guy down, saying there's no need for the gun.

Before he can even remove his watch, the guy slide the gun through thin air and presses it on his upper lips. The shot was said to have been so close to his face, it didn't even make a hole, and instead, literally blows up and splatters all over the car.

I mean, isn't that just awful? I think that if I would ever be put in a situation that's even remotely similar, I can't imagine ever getting over that, at all.

A bit morbid, but I felt it needed to be shared.

On a lighter note, Matt Smith writes Doctor Who fanfiction, which adds my attraction for him, because writers are just better than the rest of the world.

Speaking of fanfiction, I want to get back to my Treasure Planet one, because reading lots of fanfiction causes me to want to write some of my ownnn.

Always,
Melanie.
